CORE Wins at Canstruction 2024
Canstruction, Toronto
CORE participated in this year’s Canstruction, Toronto, held on Monday, May 14, 2024. Since 1999, Canstruction Toronto has been uniting the local design community with a unique canned sculpture competition and food-raiser that gives back to people struggling with hunger. Each year, the unique structures are exhibited at the Toronto Dominion Centre and are eventually deconstructed with all the canned items donated to Daily Bread Food Bank and distributed to people in need.
CORE’s design, titled “CAN-necting the hungry city” features a subway sandwich transiting through a glowing portal and transforming into Toronto’s TTC subway on the other side. The design took home the “Best Meal” award, which considers the variety and quality of the food donated.
CORE’s message centers on minding the gap – the hunger gap, and highlights the growing reliance on food banks, which now more than ever we need to get moving towards food security for everyone.
Can-necting the Hungry City represents the journey our community is taking to arrive at a place where everyone has reliable access to food. Much like most of our daily commutes, travelling can be full of transfers, delays, and unexpected detours; however, with determination and a destination in mind, we will get to where we need to be.
We imagine a future where the journey to food for all transforms from the small and individual to something greater than the sum of its parts. A future where helping one another put food on the table creates a connected and thriving city! Next stop, can-necting to food!
We extend a special thank you to all of our corporate and individual sponsors, whose support and contributions made this event possible.
